Weekend News
Stephen - I play
Melanie - I eat a lot snack. I watch a movie with Ej, mommy, daddy and mom-mom and we eat popcorn. I did a two hundred piece puzzle with mommy.
Clarke - I was making a car from a box with mummy and daddy. I eat strawberries and bananas. I was playing with baby Grant and he smile at me.
Tristan - I play with my mommy and daddy. I play my trucks up my room.
Blaise - I play all day.
Isabelle - I went to a chocolate factory and I make my own chocolate. I went to the mall and I got Valentines pajamas and heart pant and socks.
Oz - I had sleep over. Me and Ever did and I play.
Phoenix - I make blueberry cupcakes. I play my brother and I make hot chocolate at night time. I went skiing it was a family ski.
Emma - I had ice cream. I went to the restaurant and I eat mac and cheese and ice cream. I saw chickens at somebody's house.
James - I got fish at my house. I think I got 4 fish. I watch the blog and I like it and I saw the snake.
Alycia - My Dj come my house. I play my dogs.
Rowan - I play with my mom and dad. I go to my grandma's house for dinner. I also go to the market and I play some more.
Hayden - I play with my mommy and my daddy and my sisters. I watch tv.
Reyn - I went at the jumpy house with mummy and daddy and my brother. Me and My mummy went to get a snack. I got a dip in dots ice cream and a smoothie. I went home and eat some candy.
Ekin - I play my toys and I made banana bread. I eat pasta and chocolate.
Ben - I play tag with my mom and dad. Jacob was at Hebrew school. I went to Rowan's house.
Today, we discussed what we want to add to our house. Here is what friends had to say:
Rowan - I think we should put a hundred chart.
Ben - We need lot of books like we have at school.
Alycia - Well, we need picture frame like I have at my house.
Clarke - We need a fridge and food.
Phoenix - You need a bookshelf for all the books.
Emma - A lamp.
Melanie - A calendar, so we know the day.
Stephen - Plant.
James - Speaker cause music and dance party.
Blaise - Tiger pictures so we can see then.
Hayden - I want to put drawings.
Tristan - We need some Legos.
Ekin - We need tv, and chairs and tables.
Isabelle - Well, we definitely need flowers.
Oz - I want rug and chairs and draws.
The Cardinals also voted on which colors we should paint our house and castle. The choice of colors for the house were Red and Purple. We had 13 friends who wanted to paint the house purple and 3 friends who wanted to paint it red. The Cardinals also decided to paint the castle black. We took a vote and 2 friends said they wanted it white, while 14 wanted it black. We started the process of painting our house today. The Cardinals got a little messy, but truly enjoyed painting the house.
Tuesday
In today's Spanish class, the Cardinals put their finishing touches on their persona/person. Using a variety of markers and crayons, each Cardinal decorated their persona's zapatos/shoes and glued them to their persona. We are all excited to see our finished masterpieces hanging in the hallway (right outside the Library near the EC classes). This week it was Reyn's turn to squeezed la vaca!
After Spanish class, we explored some blueprints that Oz brought to share. Thank you, Oz :) We discussed how an architect creates a blueprint and then shares it with a construction crew. The construction crew then builds the structure. We talked about how the resource teachers were our construction crew because they came and helped us build our house and castle! We further explored the blueprints and noted all the shapes one can find in a building. We saw many triangles, circles, rectangles, and squares. Next, we took the lesson outside and went on an architecture shape scavenger hunt! Using various-shaped puzzle pieces as a reference, we walked around outside to explore. Did you know that the outside of AFS has many, many shapes! If you’d like, try going on an architecture shape scavenger hunt in your neighborhood. You may be surprised at what you find! Ask your Cardinal what shapes they found or saw on our walk?
Wednesday
The Cardinals worked on their February self portraits. Friends also cut out squares and rectangles as shingles to add to our house. Work zone, safety first!
Thursday
The Cardinals did a great job working on a journal entry titled, "How would you design a house?".
In honor of Black History Month, in art class today Amanda introduced us to different famous black artists and the art they have created. We learned about Gee's Bend Quilters in Alabama. The quilts of Gee Bend are made by African American women living in Gee Bend Alabama. The tradition has been passed down from generation to generation and is considered a very important piece of African American culture and history in the United State. Using a white handkerchief and a variety of fabric scraps, the Cardinals built their very own miniature quilts. Friends chose how they want their quilt to look and then Amanda will sew our fabric pieces onto our quilt! We can't wait to see how they look next art class. Stay tuned!!
