Music class was fun as the Cardinals first explored with musical instruments, followed by singing our hello song and engaging in class. We continued to do our work of practicing for our Spring program.
Keisha also told us that in two week, the Cardinal, Sparrow and Catbird classes will be singing and performing Owl Moon in an assembly for the whole lower school!
Alicia greeted the Cardinals and our amazing Cardinals sounded fantastic as they each responded back in Spanish. In class, we reviewed the Spanish names for some juguetes (toys) such as peluche (stuffy), muñeca (doll), camión (truck), and figura de acción (action figure). After, Alicia reviewed and discussed the meaning of toy stereotypes. She then read us the book by Ann Scott, "Want To Play Trucks?" The story is about two friends who both like to play in the sandbox at the park but each like a different toy. How will they play together? Ask your Cardinal. Later, Alicia engaged the Cardinals in a swatter game where she challenged them to swat the flashcard that matched the Spanish word she called out. Great work Cardinals! This week it was Blaise's turn to squeezed la vaca!
After snack the Cardinals made a new batch of play dough. Friends took turns measuring ingredients, pouring, stirring and getting water. We also voted between the colors blue and yellow for our new play dough. 13 friends chose blue while 1 friend chose yellow and so our new batch of play dough is blue. The color yellow will be one of the colors we choose from for our next batch of play dough. We cooked, made the play dough, and finally it was time for us to play with it. Ask your Cardinal what ingredients they used to make our play dough.
We asked the Cardinals what their favorite part of making the play dough was and here is what they said:
Rowan- Turning it blue blue blue!
Reyn- Mixing it!
Emma- Putting the color in and seeing it in the bowl
Isabelle- I liked the mixing part
Ben- Mixing it with all my friends
Stephen- It blue
James- The really really blue part
Blaise- The blue play dough
Hayden- Stirring the play dough
Tristan- The color it turn blue
Melanie- Stirring and seeing the blue
Clarke- I liked the blue and mixing it
Phoenix- When it turned blue and getting the water
Oz- Mixing the dough and mixing the blue in
Wednesday
The Cardinals worked on focus and coordination as they worked with basketballs. Friends bounced the ball while staying in one spot or walking. The goal was to try to bounce the ball two-four times. Some friends were able to bounce longer. We also worked with the scarves, shooting hoops and did catching and throwing. Ask your Cardinal what they enjoyed most about gym class.
Thursday
The Cardinals designed their very own Magic Wands in art class with Amanda! Each Cardinal picked feathers for the top of their wand. After, they picked a few colors of yarn to wrap around their wand that represented different magical powers. Ask your cardinal what magical powers their wand has!
Friday
Ashanti read us the book Big Truck Little Island by Chris Van Dusen followed by each Cardinal choosing and checking out a book.
Enjoy your weekend!
