Morning choice time

Today the Cardinals worked on a journal entry titled, "What are you thankful for and why? Friends were very thankful for their families, friends and the playground just to name a few.

In music class with Keisha we started by sing Jambo. It's was so wonderful hearing the Cardinals singing this song together as a group while Keisha played her guitar. Keisha told the Cardinals, "It was music to my ears to hear how amazing you all sounded"" Cardinals you are so fantastic!! Keisha then read us the book The Animal boogie in which the Cardinals did the movement of the animals in the book.

Tuesday

In Spanish class with Alicia we continued to read the book called Mary wears what she wants. The book was about a girl who was not allowed to wear pants. People in that time was not very nice to Mary and were really mean but Mary was very strong and determined. And over time Mary was able to make her own choice and wear what she wanted. Other people in time were also able to make their own choices after that and today Mary's determination has lead the way for us in making our own choice about what we wear as well!! Thank you Mary for paving the way for us!! The Cardinals engaged in conversation about fair and unfairness during and after the story was finished. This story is true and took placed in the United States. Alicia then played a game with us in which we learned some items of clothing in Spanish. This week it was James's turn to squeezed la vaca!

Wednesday

The Cardinals and the whole lower school spaced out for Meeting for Worship in the auditorium this morning! Each grade sang their part of the song Thanks A lot, the words were posted in last week's blog! Everyone sounds so lovely as we gave thanks for all the wonderful things around us, people and ourselves!!

Then it was time for the Cardinals to enjoy their Friendsgiving Snack of pretzels, veggie straws, cheezit, popcorn, little bites muffins, yogurt and grapes!

We celebrated Reyn's  5th birthday today! Reyn brought in cupcakes to share in honor of her special day! Reyn, thank you for sharing your birthday with us!

                                     Happy birthday Reyn!!

We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving !!

We told the Cardinals we were going to have a special snack today. Oh boy, were the Cardinals very excited to make their very own pizza bagels for our morning snack. Each friend got a half of a bagel and decided if they wanted to add sauce and cheese or just cheese or just have a plain bagel. Friends waited patiently for their turn. We wrote each friend's name under their pizza bagel so we would know which belong to whom. We also made some extra pizza bagel. The Cardinals truly enjoyed making their special snack so much that we are planning on doing a cooking/drink activity with the Cardinals every other week!!  All the Cardinals except for two friends had seconds of our delicious special snack!!

Today, we began music class by taking deep/slow elevator breaths to settle our bodies. We then sang our hello song Jambo. Followed by practicing the song Thanks A Lot that we will be singing together as a whole Lower School the day before Thanksgiving! See Below! E
ach friend got a bell and then followed directions as Keisha called out the movements we needed to do such as galloping, tipped-toe, jumping, skipping and flying around the room! We sang our goodbye song before heading outside for some large motor fun and exploration!

Tuesday

Join us in welcoming Zomaira to the Cardinal classroom as an assistant teacher. Zomaira is currently in college studying Early Childhood Education. Welcome Zomaira!!

The Cardinals enjoyed yet another Spanish class today. Alicia greeted us in Spanish and each Cardinal responded in Spanish as well! After our momento de silencio and calendar work in Spanish, Alicia began a discussion on another way we are all igual y diferente (same and different) which is the clothes we wear. Alicia read part of a story called Mary wears what she wants. The book is based on the true story of Mary Edwards Walker who was not allowed to wear pants during a time long, long ago. The Cardinals had much to say as they did not think, "it was fair, not nice, kind, or spectful (respectful)."  Alicia then taught us two words that described pieces of clothing, pants (pantalones) and dress (vestido). This week it was Isabelle's turn to squeezed la vaca.

Wednesday

After Meeting for worship in the meetinghouse with the other two EC and Kindergarten classes we headed to Gym class. Josh and Lisa created yet another fun filled gym class for the Cardinals where we explored some of our favorite gym equipment, bean bags and pom pom balls! We began by sharpening our eye-hand-coordination as we threw and caught our bean bags. Next, we practiced our balancing skills as we moved around the gym while balancing our bean bag on different parts of our body. To end class, we played a game called slide tag. The object of the game was to get as many points as you can by sliding your bean bag across the floor and trying to slide the bean bag so it touched a friends foot. The game was pretty tricky, but we had a lot of fun tagging our friends and dodging sliding bean bags :)

Thursday

The Cardinals engaged in a math workshop in which all the activity were math related. At the tables friends worked on counting in number order, number recognition, writing numbers with pencils and in sand on trays with chopsticks, number bingo, sink or float (making predictions about how many pennies it would take for a cup to sink or float and counting the pennies.) and number puzzle. Friends counted the objects and then connected it to the correct number to complete each number puzzle. Friends also trace their fingers in the sand and count them. Great work Cardinals!!

In art class with Amanda and Emilie, the Cardinals continued their work on our big canvases. For our last step of this project, we made our very own flowers out of construction paper. Using different shapes of pre-cut construction paper, we observed the different shapes in flower pictures and worked on creating our own flowers. It was just like doing a puzzle! When our flowers creations are finished drying, Amanda and Emilie will glue them on to our big canvases. We are very excited to see our canvases hanging in the hallway by our classroom!

Friday

Today we had a special snack in honor of celebrating Blaise's birthday! Thank you Blaise for sharing your birthday with us.

                                  Happy 4th Birthday Blaise!

Our Library class began with each Cardinal returning a borrowed book. Ashanti read us two books Grumpy Cat and Brave Charlotte. As always each Cardinal picked and checked out a book to bring back to our classroom!

Ask your Cardinal what ingredients they used to make pizza bagels?

Stay Safe and Warm!      Have a wonderful weekend!
