Our Cardinal architects and mechanical engineers decided to create    A house, a castle, a treehouse, a robot, and a monster truck. Early this morning our resource teachers came back to our class to lend a hand with the beginning stages of our building projects. We started by making a house and a castle. The Cardinals architects want to paint and decorate next. Stay tuned for our next steps!

How many Cardinals can fit in a box?

Today, we took turns playing in our house and castle!!
Ask your Cardinal what they liked about our house or castle?

The Cardinals also took turns doing math and literacy work.

After our exploration with the musical instruments and our hello song, Keisha read us the book, We're Going on a Lion Hunt. The Cardinals chanted along and did the movements that coordinate with the book, such as running, jumping, crawling, swimming and splashing. What fun!! We sang the goodbye song and went back to our classroom to get dressed before heading outside in the deep snow!!

Ask your Cardinal what they liked about the snow?

Tuesday

Alycia brought in cupcakes to celebrate her 5th birthday.  Happy Birthday Alycia! And thank you for sharing your birthday with us.

The Cardinals continued their work with their persona/ person. This week we began our work of dressing our persona/ person. Friends chose what clothing they wanted to work with and then designed them. Today it was Rowan's turn to squeezed la vaca! Ask your Cardinal what clothing they chose for their persona/ person?

Wednesday

The Cardinals were very busy today, in between Meeting for Worship, class learning, and gym class, we found time to bake 6 loaves of banana bread for people in need of food. All classes in lower school took part in creating different foods, hats, scarves or blankets for people in need.  We explained to the Cardinals that we will get to eat a little of the banana bread and that 5 loaves will be going to people in need. Friends asked, "Why we were giving the bread away" and we explained that some people don't have enough food and that it's kind to help others. Some Cardinals questioned further by asking, "Why people don't have food." We then explained that some people don't have enough money to buy food.  Ask your Cardinal what they did to help make the banana bread?

Thursday

In art class, the Cardinals continued their work of creating their habitats. Today, friends added three-dimensional objects to their work such as trees, small pebbles, sticks, different shaped paper, streamer paper, and cellophane paper.

In honor of the Lunar New Year, we took a walk through Middle and Upper school and saw the ways the different classes decorated their doors. After art class, we got a big piece of red paper and each Cardinal drew on it. This Lunar New Year is the year of the Tiger. Friends picked out tiger pictures that they will cut out and attach them to our red paper design.  We will then cover our inside classroom door with our creative Lunar New Year design!

Friday

The Cardinals continued working on our Lunar New Year door decoration by coloring, cutting out tigers and gluing them on.

Friends listening to a read aloud!

Today it was EC and Kindergartens turn to learn about tree tapping and maple syrup. It may have been a rainy day, but that didn't stop us from learning about maple syrup. We took the learning inside. The Cardinals first went to the lower school science room. We learned how a maple tree is tapped. Each Cardinal had a chance to drill a hole into a large log.  After drilling the hole, we placed a tap into the hole and attached a long clear tube to the tap. The other end of the tube was then placed in a large bucket. The sap will drip out of the tree, down the tube and into the bucket. Courtney, our lower school science teacher, then taught us how maple sap is turned into maple syrup. The sap must be boiled down for a long time before it turns to maple syrup. It takes a LOT of sap to make 1 bottle of maple syrup. When we were all finished, each of us had a chance to taste sap from one of our maple trees here at AFS. It looks a lot like water and tastes like it too, just a little sweeter :) Oh, and we loved visiting the science room and meeting the classroom turtles and snake! Ask your Cardinal what was the snake and turtles doing?

Ask your Cardinal how did the syrup tasted?
