The well awaited 100th day of school is finally here!! The Cardinals have been counting down to this day on our hundred chart and were very excited to celebrate! We began our day by decorating our class, followed by 100th day activities such as making individual crowns, coloring the number 100, building with 100 cups. Friends also drew individual pictures of what they might look like at 100 years old.
The Cardinals came up with 10 ways to move our bodies, as we count to 100 by 10s for each movement. Here are the suggestions from the Cardinals: Wiggling, Jumping, Running in place, Yoga-push ups, Dancing, Flying in place, Spiderman moves, Stretch up high, Touching your toes and Clapping your hands!
In Spanish class, we celebrated the 100th day of school! Alicia read us two books about the 100th day of school. We learned how to skip count by 10's en Espanol too! Did you know that 100 en Espanol is cien? At the end of class Alicia handed out some fun 100th day of school coloring sheets written en Espanol. This week it was Phoenix's turn to squeezed la vaca!
While the Cardinals were in Spanish class a teacher started making pancakes for our special 100 day snack. Friends chose which kind of warm pancakes they wanted, as some were made with chocolate chips. We also had grapes and strawberries. Friends started with 1 pancake and fruit but most Cardinals had 2 - 4 pancakes! Yummy!!
Ask your Cardinal what they like most about the 100th Day of School?
Wednesday
Today the Cardinals worked on a journal entry titled, " What did you like about our 100th day of school?"
After our lower school assembly in the auditorium, we headed off to gym class with Josh. The Cardinals greeted Josh with a big group hug today! We continued to celebrate the Winter Olympics. This week we talked about hockey and learned how to shoot the puck across the floor. Friends practiced eye-hand coordination as they used large foam hockey sticks and foam frisbees as pucks. It was a little tricky, but with help from our teachers, we figured it out! We ended gym with some free time where we were able to use all the space in the gym to run, dance and play. The gym is a very fun and special place because we are told to run, run run, when we are inside! Ask your Cardinal what was fun in gym class?
Thursday
Choice time
Today the Cardinals worked in two groups to paint our castle. Friends chose to paint our castle black. While one group painted the other group went on a scavenger hunt around the lower school hallways. On the scavenger hunt, the Cardinals searched for the number 100. One of the teachers hid 12 different number 100 signs around the lower school hallways and each Cardinal had a turn to find a hidden 100. The Cardinals did a great job taking turns searching for the number 100 and walking quietly through the hallway. Ask your Cardinal what three numbers makes 100?
Friday
We returned our library books and Ashanti read us the book It Fell From The Sky by The Fan brothers. Each Cardinal then chose and checked out a book to bring back to our classroom. Ask your Cardinal which book they borrowed from the library?
Have a nice weekend!
