The Cardinals are usually curious about foods their peers or teachers have at snack and lunch time and many conversations often emerges.  Recently, a teacher had guacamole for snack and a detailed conversation unfolded about having it before, not liking it and the way it looked. And so today, the Cardinals made their very own guacamole. We used avocados, tomatoes and lemon juice. All the Cardinals were eager to help and took turns scooping avocados into a bowl, using plastic knifes to cut up the harder part of tomatoes and mashing avocados followed by added lemon juice. Then it was time for the Cardinals to scoop chips into their guacamole and taste. Most friends tried our guacamole but did not like it, three friends had three helpings and all Cardinals enjoyed the chips!  We also shared our guacamole with Tricia, Andrea and the resource teachers. Ask your Cardinal what they thought of making and tasting guacamole?  As we cut the avocados into halves, friends noticed that the inside was a different color than the outside. Some of the questions that emerged were, "Why is there a seed inside?" "Why some avocados are bigger?"  "Why some seed are big and some little?" "Is a avocado a apple?" We also count to see how many small and big seeds we had.  We also took a close look at the tiny seeds in tomatoes.

Tuesday

After our greetings, moment of silence and calendar work in Spanish, Alicia told us we will be practicing some math by playing Math Bingo. Alicia first told us the Spanish words for the plus symbol (más) and equal (son). Alicia continued by telling us we will be working with the numbers 1-10 in Spanish but instead of calling the numbers out she will be giving us math equations to solve. Each Cardinal got a bingo board and red chips. Alicia then said and wrote an equation on her dry erase board for example tres más dos son (3+2= __).  She also used transportation manipulative to give a visual to the number amounts given.  The Cardinals were then invited to solve the equations and give the answers in Spanish. Friends then checked their boards to see if they had that number and put a chip on. Some Cardinals independently said the answers in Spanish and others needed a little help! All the Cardinals did a fantastic job doing math in Spanish!! Ask you Cardinal to count from 1-10 in Spanish. Today it was Ben's turn to squeezed la vaca

We returned to our classroom had snack and followed by having fun with the balls out on one of the fields on campus!

Enjoying lunch outside!

Wednesday

Gym class with Josh was fun as always and the Cardinals truly enjoyed themselves! Friends worked on throwing balls or bean bags into a bucket and then moving the bucket a little further away before. Friends also engaging in activities such as shooting hoops, working with frisbees and hola hoops. Ask your Cardinal what is their favorite thing to do in gym class?

Friends taking turns working on their month of May self-portraits and having choice time!

Thursday

The Cardinals were working with clay and adding texture in art class. Amanda explained what texture was as she showed the Cardinals the many tools they will be working with. Friends used sea shells, rubber stamps with designs, beads, marker cap, sticks and keys to create their work. Friends got a clay ball and used their fist to tap the clay flat before using tools to create texture on their clay.  Many friends could be heard saying: this is so cool, I make the sun, mine has a smiley face, it feels wet but it's not wet, I making all circles, mine is the best, my mommy going to love it and are we taking them home? Ask your Cardinal what tools they used to create their work?

A few Cardinals requested a second day of lunch outside!!
And so here we are before the next few days of rain!

Friends playing a game of duck-duck goose!!

Friday

On this rainy day, the Cardinals found ways to have fun! We had a dance party, enjoyed a special snack from Isabelle..Thanks Isabelle! Friends worked on math and an art activity one on one or in small groups with teachers. We had library class and enjoyed the book read by Ashanti before picking and checking out a book!

Ask your Cardinal what book they picked out?
