Keisha told us that we were going to continue our work of practicing for our Lower School Winter Program. Once in the music room, we began exploring with music instruments followed by practicing the songs and movements for Beehive, Animal Boogie and Bell Horses. We then sang our goodbye song and went back to our classroom.

Tuesday

Alicia read a Spanish book called Uno y Dos brought in by Melanie. The book was about numbers and had the right amount of objects to coordinate with each number. We also learned more words for some of the clothing that we wear such as dress - vestido, skirt - saya, shirt -  camisa, long-sleeved shirt - camisa de mangas largas, pants - pantalón, short - pantalón corto, fancy shirt - blusa.  This week it was Phoenix's turn to squeezed la vaca.

We celebrated Phoenix's birthday today! In honor of her 4th birthday, Phoenix brought in cupcakes to celebrate. Thanks Phoenix for sharing your birthday with us!

                                    Happy Birthday Phoenix!!

Today we worked on a journal entry titled, "What did you do over Thanksgiving?" As friends worked their were many comments such as "I did that too", "My grandparents come to my house", "I eat desserts" and "I play with my family", just to mention a few of the conversation pieces.

Over the past few weeks the teachers have noticed that some Cardinals were very interesting in racing Hot Wheel cars across the classroom floor or sometimes off tables. Two friends began making ramps out of magna-tiles and this lead to many friends wanting to do the same. We had a conversation with the Cardinals and asked the question, "Why do you like building ramps for your cars?" The answers were impressive! Some of the Cardinals' comments were, "Cause they go super fast, my car was in the air","One of my cars went speeding but not the yellow one" and "My red car was too big it was stuck".  The teachers brought in PVC pipes some of which were cut in halve lengths, different sizes and some were uncut. We also brought in many stabilizers and told the Cardinals to explore with all the materials. We wanted to see how and what the Cardinals would do. Our brilliant Cardinals were amazing. They created ramps on the rug and tables, connected PVC pipes across three tables with and without sloops. Friends worked together to test out speed, balance, probability, stability, mobility and cause and effect. Stay tune as we explore more with mathematic and literacy skills while working hands-on with Hot Wheels and PVC pipes!!

Wednesday

The Cardinals had a blast and half in gym class with Josh. Friends focused on balance, coordination, turn taking and team work as they worked with hula hoops and noodles.

The Cardinals were very excited to watch as Amanda and Emilee hung the six big canvases that EC and Kindergarten students created in our EC hallway!!
Nice job Cardinals !!

Thursday

This morning the Cardinals explored with shaving cream and animals. Each friends had their own portion of shaving cream and a few animals. The Cardinals drew pictures, wrote letters, numbers, and their names by using their finger, and explored with animals.

In art class with Amanda and Emilee, the Cardinals explored with  different colors of wool. Amanda told us that we were going to make pom-poms with the colored wool. We picked three colored wool and dipped them in water and then placed the wet wool in the palms of our hands and rolled it, by moving our hands around. After a few minutes, the wool turned into a small ball. The Cardinals did this process a few times. The Cardinals will be using their homemade pom-poms for our next art project. Stay tuned!

Friday

As Michelle and Ashanti welcomed us in the library, we dropped off our borrowed books and sat on the rug to hear a story read by Ashanti. She read us a book about Hanukkah called "The Hanukkah Mice" by Steven Kroll. We then picked and checked out books to bring back to our classroom. Ask your Cardinal which book they chose.

Show your Cardinal the pictures of them working with PVC pipes and have them explain what they were doing.

                                     Have a nice weekend!!
