Join us in welcoming Zomaira to the Cardinal classroom as an assistant teacher. Zomaira is currently in college studying Early Childhood Education. Welcome Zomaira!!
The Cardinals enjoyed yet another Spanish class today. Alicia greeted us in Spanish and each Cardinal responded in Spanish as well! After our momento de silencio and calendar work in Spanish, Alicia began a discussion on another way we are all igual y diferente (same and different) which is the clothes we wear. Alicia read part of a story called Mary wears what she wants. The book is based on the true story of Mary Edwards Walker who was not allowed to wear pants during a time long, long ago. The Cardinals had much to say as they did not think, "it was fair, not nice, kind, or spectful (respectful)." Alicia then taught us two words that described pieces of clothing, pants (pantalones) and dress (vestido). This week it was Isabelle's turn to squeezed la vaca.
Wednesday
After Meeting for worship in the meetinghouse with the other two EC and Kindergarten classes we headed to Gym class. Josh and Lisa created yet another fun filled gym class for the Cardinals where we explored some of our favorite gym equipment, bean bags and pom pom balls! We began by sharpening our eye-hand-coordination as we threw and caught our bean bags. Next, we practiced our balancing skills as we moved around the gym while balancing our bean bag on different parts of our body. To end class, we played a game called slide tag. The object of the game was to get as many points as you can by sliding your bean bag across the floor and trying to slide the bean bag so it touched a friends foot. The game was pretty tricky, but we had a lot of fun tagging our friends and dodging sliding bean bags :)
Thursday
The Cardinals engaged in a math workshop in which all the activity were math related. At the tables friends worked on counting in number order, number recognition, writing numbers with pencils and in sand on trays with chopsticks, number bingo, sink or float (making predictions about how many pennies it would take for a cup to sink or float and counting the pennies.) and number puzzle. Friends counted the objects and then connected it to the correct number to complete each number puzzle. Friends also trace their fingers in the sand and count them. Great work Cardinals!!
In art class with Amanda and Emilie, the Cardinals continued their work on our big canvases. For our last step of this project, we made our very own flowers out of construction paper. Using different shapes of pre-cut construction paper, we observed the different shapes in flower pictures and worked on creating our own flowers. It was just like doing a puzzle! When our flowers creations are finished drying, Amanda and Emilie will glue them on to our big canvases. We are very excited to see our canvases hanging in the hallway by our classroom!

Today we had a special snack in honor of celebrating Blaise's birthday! Thank you Blaise for sharing your birthday with us.
