Monday
What is weekend news? It's dictation given by each Cardinal weekly on Mondays after returning to school from the weekend. It's another way for young children to strengthen language skills, develop longer sentence structure, gain skills in recalling and retelling of information, understand sequence of events and to further develop memory skills.
As the weeks and months go by you will see your Cardinal gain skills in all of the above areas. Some weeks you will notice that your Cardinal had a lot to say while other weeks not so much or the information given maybe from your Cardinal's imagination and this is okay. The purpose of the weekend news is to help foster language development.

In music class with Keisha, we started with free choice in which the Cardinals explored with musical instruments. We then sang our hello song in different languages. The Cardinals are already singing along as Keisha plays her guitar! We sang hello to the trees, birds, sunshine, grass and friends. The Cardinals were very interesting in how Keisha gets the guitar to make music. Keisha took some time to explain and show friends how the guitar works such as how high and low notes happen with the pick and capo. We then sang the Cobbler song and mended our shoes, followed by Turn cinnamon turn, we did the movements such as, marching, clapping hands, twirling our arms, hopping and bouncing while Keisha played her guitar for us.
Tuesday
This morning in Spanish class Alicia began by having a momento de silencio and sang the Buenos días song.
Buenos días amigos, buenos días. Buenos días, ¿cómo están?Estoy bien, amigos estoy bien. Estoy bien y tu, y tu, y tu, y tu, y tu. Y yo, y el y ella y nosotros.
(Good morning, friends, good morning. Good morning how are you? I am good, friends, I am good. I am good and you, and you, and you, and you, and you. And I, and he and she and us.)
Alicia began to talk about how we are all the same and different, igual y diferente. Alicia and our Cardinal friend Alycia both stood up and the class looked for ways in which Alicia and Alycia are igual y diferente such as eyes, ears, hair, and both identify as girls. After, Alicia read a book called, Niñas y Niños (Boys and Girls), which celebrates the many ways we are all amazing and that what matters most is to be yourself. This week is was Ben's turn to squeeze La Vaca!
