Keisha greeted us and welcomed the Cardinals into the music room. After exploring with instruments we joined Keisha in singing our hello song "Jambo". Then friends began singing, got out their shoes and hammers (hands) to visit the cobbler and mead some shoes. We experimented with using our high and low tone of voice. Followed by each friend getting two egg shakers and following Keisha by singing and making movements all at the same time. Great job Cardinals!!

Tuesday

We began Spanish class with Alicia saying Buenos días, (Good morning) and asking ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?) to which friends would respond with muy bien (very good) OR así-así (so-so) OR no muy bien (not very good). The Cardinals are already confidently responding to Alicia in Spanish as she greets them. We had our momento de silencio (moment of silence) followed by the buenos días song.  We then went over the calendar as Alicia said the words and we repeated; "hoy es (today is), martes (Tuesday), octubre (October) diecinueve (nineteen) del (of) dos mil vientiuno (two thousand twenty-one). We then counted the number of days we have been in school starting with uno (one) to veintinueve (29).

After, we went over our body parts again as it is very important for young children to learn from consistent reputation. Alicia played a game in which she hid the flashcard for a body parts under a cloth and then took one way. The Cardinals then had to figure out which one was missing and called it out in Spanish. The Cardinals were so great at this task! We also walked around the Spanish room and when Alicia called a body part in Spanish, the Cardinals stopped and touched that body part. We ended by singing our goodbye song and this week it was Emma's turn to squeezed la vaca.

Wednesday

We had our meeting for worship in our classroom this week, then it was time to walk over to the gym for class with Lisa. Today we worked on throwing. Lisa taught us to stand sideways, then point to where we wanted the ball to go. Next, we threw the ball. We practiced throwing yarn balls and tennis balls at bowling pins as we tried to knock the pins down. We found out that tennis balls bounce when they land and yarn balls do not bounce. We also learned that yarn balls feel lighter in our hand. This was an activity focusing on eye-hand coordination, observation, language and turn-taking skills.

We spent most of the morning outside enjoying the warm sunny day. We had fun running, playing with bubbles and balls in the big field across from lower school!

After reading the book I AM Enough by Grace Byers a few times Cardinals started saying, "Because I am enough" as some pages were read. After two weeks of reading this book all the Cardinals are now saying, "Because I am enough" as each page is read.

The book talked about different ways that makes us enough and the endless possibilities of believing we are enough. We started talking about ways we are enough as a class and now we have a I am display in our classroom.

What is I am - I am is an empowerment activity to help guide each Cardinal in seeing, feeling and believing in who they are. We are working to help each Cardinal become stronger and gain confident in standing up for their rights to be and become who they want to be. And that sometimes they may need to try or do something a few times before they get it right. Each Cardinal designed their names and gave quotes about their I am. Below is the display that is up in our classroom. We hope to make this a year long activity and to help each  Cardinal create their own individual I am books!

Thursday

Today the Cardinals spent some time exploring with play dough. It may look like we just played, but our brains were hard at work as we further developed our social skills, creativity, fine motor skills, math and science skills! To further develop our social skills, we traded animals with friends and created imaginary worlds with our peers. We worked our fine motor muscles as we squished, pulled and pinched the dough. Some friends hid their animals in the dough and then pulled the dough apart to find the animal. Did you know that hiding the animals in the dough and ripping the dough apart to find the animal is actually a building block to writing? We explored how the animals made tracks in the dough and compared the different sizes of the tracks. Other friends created prints of the various animals bodies. Friends compared  the different textures that the animals created on the dough.

After gathering at the big art table, Amanda told us that we were going to create a big project together. Amanda showed us three very big canvas that we were going to designed as a class community. We used painting tools such as forks, toothbrushes, sponges, different size paintbrushes, scrapers and many colors of paints. Amanda also told us that each EC class will be doing this project and that when we are finished. Our art project will be displayed outside our classroom for us to observe and to tell others how we created it! Stay tune to see what we add next!!

Ask your Cardinal how do you say good morning in Spanish?

We are looking forward to seeing you at conferences tomorrow!

                                 Have a great evening!
