The Cardinals began the week by finishing to decorate their family picture frames. Each friend independently decided how they wanted to designed their work! Friends used glue, different kinds of hearts, stickers, feathers, different kinds of gems, buttons and different kinds of sequins.
After choice time, snack and read aloud, we headed outside to explore on the playground. Followed by music class with Keisha, we began music class by freely exploring with instruments. Keisha then introduced us to what is our hello song in which we learned to say hello in languages such as English, Spanish and Swahili, followed by Keisha getting out her guitar and singing songs while the Cardinals did the hand and body movements to There's a cobbler down the street, Turn cinnamon turn and The bee when to the barn. The Cardinals did a great job following directions as Keisha instructed us.
The Cardinals on Tuesday had Spanish class with Alicia, she greeted us by saying each student's name one at a time and then asked friends in Spanish how they were feeling. Alicia taught friends the Spanish words for "good morning" and how they were feeling. Example, Buenos días Clarke, ¿Cómo estas? - Clarke would then say muy bien or "very good or okay".
After, Alicia went over the calendar in Spanish, saying hoy es septiembre 21 del 2021 and we counted the numbers from 1-21, all in Spanish. Alicia told us that in the coming weeks we are going to be learning about how we are all the same and different, igual y diferente. She then read us the book Niñas y Niños. This week it was Oz's turn to squeeze La vaca.
Friends were excited to see their family pictures displayed in the beautiful picture frames the Cardinals decorated!
Gym with Josh and Lisa was so much fun! The Cardinals engaged in an activity where we pretended to visit the zoo after warming up. Josh and Lisa had pictures of different animals all around the gym. We moved our bodies just like these animals. We slithered like a snake, stomped like an elephant, ran fast like a cheetah and galloped like a horse just to name a few.
On Thursday, after snack and read aloud, The Cardinals each helped to make our homemade play-dough with flour, salt, cream of tartar, baby oil, water and food coloring. Friends took turns measuring, pouring and stirring ingredients. Then it was time to decide what color our play-dough should be. Friends chose between green and red by voting. Here is how we voted: if a friend wanting the play-dough to be red they would go to the red rug. If a friend wanted the play-dough to be green they would go stand on the rug that had green on it. We counted the friends in each group -10 red and 5 green. We then asked the Cardinals with number was higher and so we made the play-dough red! The next time we make play-dough green will be one of the two colors we vote on. A teacher then cooked and mead our play-dough and after art class each Cardinal got to explore with our new play-dough!!
Friday, friends returned their borrowed library books from last week to the library. Michelle read us a book called A Dog's Day. The book was a little different because the first half of the story was from the owner's, Rosie, point of view about how the day went and the second half was from Rusty's, the dog, point of view of the day. At the end of the story Michelle asked the Cardinal what they like or didn't like about the book. The Cardinals gave the book two thumps up!! Each Cardinal then chose and checked out a new book with Ashanti to bring back to our classroom.
Ask your Cardinal which ingredient they added to make our play-dough or how they helped to make our play-dough!
Have a great weekend!!
